COTTON WOVENS

Cotton is a natural fiber, which is then woven into various weights of fabric to create a number of different textiles. While woven cotton fabrics have no natural stretch unless blended with spandex or other fibers, they do have varying degrees of opacity, drape, and different feel.  The sheerest of these woven cotton fabrics is batiste or voile (French for “veil”), which are frequently used as shirting or lining fabrics, and have a soft feel second only to the luxurious lawn fabric.  Cotton can also create heavy, stiff denims or scratchy canvas with no drape at all.  Other popular cotton fabrics include poplin, gauze or double gauze, chambray, flannel, corduroy, tweed, and twill.
